I like to say I got into the mortgage business "sideways." After graduating from Purdue University in 1984 I was both a staff and free-lance writer for several newspapers and authored a book on government loan programs and buying repossessed property.

While interviewing the manager of Statewide Funding, a company specializing in FHA 203k loans, I was offered a position as a 203k loan processor and my husband, a loan officer position. It was definitely an education for this business!

In 1994 I founded American Dream Mortgage with my husband Mark Bauer in Michigan City and was able to realize our "dream" of providing extra-special service, a dedication to finding loans other lenders often were not offering and counseling people on the steps to take to achieve owning a home.

2006 and 2007 brought great challenges to our industry, particularly for small businesses like mine. I feel very blessed to have affiliated with Hallmark Home Mortgage. The founder's philosophy towards customer service is extraordinary and the Hallmark "team" is a joy to work with.

I am also blessed to have Mike Gowan and Maggie Cummins, who have worked alongside me for many years. Together we are thrilled to represent in Hallmark in LaPorte County and Northwest Indiana.
